Therapist: Manon
Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) is a gentle, rhythmic massage technique that supports the natural movement of lymph fluid through the body. It encourages lymph to flow toward lymph nodes, where waste and toxins can be filtered and cleared. This process helps reduce swelling, supports detoxification, enhances immune function, and promotes deep relaxation.
This treatment may be beneficial for:
- Post-surgical recovery
- Fluid retention
- Reducing inflammation
- Supporting immune health
- General wellbeing and relaxation
MLD is intended as a gentle “refresh” for an otherwise healthy lymphatic system.
Important information – Please read before booking
A current medical clearance from your doctor is required before receiving this treatment.
Even if you’ve received clearance in the past, an updated clearance is essential to ensure that lymphatic drainage is safe and appropriate for your needs.
Lymphatic drainage is not suitable for individuals with the following conditions:
- Kidney disease or renal failure
- Congestive heart conditions
- Diabetes
- Malignant cancers
- Skin infections (e.g. cellulitis, ulcers)
- Thrombosis or blood clots
- Lymphoedema (or suspected lymphoedema)
If you experience symptoms such as persistent swelling, warmth at the site, skin discolouration, thickening, or pitting, please speak to your doctor before booking. These may be signs of lymphoedema, which requires a separate medical assessment and clearance.

FAQs
Do I need a referral or medical clearance to book?
Yes. A current medical clearance from your doctor is required before receiving any lymphatic drainage massage. This helps ensure the treatment is safe for your specific health needs, particularly if you have underlying conditions or recent medical history.
Why is medical clearance required?
While manual lymphatic drainage is gentle, it can interfere with some health conditions. Issues such as kidney disease, heart problems, diabetes, certain cancers, infections, and blood clots can make MLD unsafe without medical supervision. If you experience symptoms of lymphoedema (like persistent swelling or skin changes), you must be assessed by your doctor before booking.
What happens during the Initial Consultation?
The 75-minute initial session includes a health history review, discussion of your goals, and a tailored treatment plan. Manon will ensure that MLD is appropriate for your needs and begin treatment if clearance has been provided and no contraindications are present.
Is lymphatic drainage painful?
Not at all. MLD is a very light, flowing treatment. The pressure is soft and gentle – this is intentional and appropriate for the lymphatic system, which sits close to the surface of the skin.
How many sessions will I need?
This depends on your individual needs. Some clients find a single session helpful for general wellness, while others may benefit from a series of treatments post-surgery or to manage fluid retention. Manon can guide you during your initial appointment.
Can I book a session if I haven’t had surgery or a medical condition?
Yes, absolutely. Lymphatic drainage can support general wellness, immune health, and relaxation. It’s also popular during seasonal changes or times of physical or emotional stress.
